Thanks to Internet Archive Wayback Machine, we can take a peek at the original Pokémon Center website. This includes screenshots from 2002 to 2004. All quotes in the history section were taken from this website.

Did you know? In 2001, Pokémon USA contacted various Pokémon fan website owners, asking them to host a banner advertisement for the Pokémon Center NY store in exchange for a special prize!

In December 2001, the owner of legendarypkmn.net, “Arty2” from Greece, was contacted about hosting a website banner for Pokémon Center NY, in exchange for a free t-shirt and entry to a Pokémon Mini giveaway. Here is a snapshot of what the website and banner looked like. Then, to Arty2’s surprise, they won the giveaway and became (presumably) the very first person in all of Greece to obtain a Pokémon Mini! Thankfully, Arty2 printed, kept, and now shared these two emails from Pokémon USA with us.
